Job Duties

Fire Chief - Daniel Walston

Reporting to the County Manager, the fire chief will administer, plan, direct and control all aspects of the fire department including administration, fire suppression, fire prevention and rescue activities of the department as authorized by the Georgia Fire Code. Administrative duties comprise planning, directing, and controlling all fire department activities including recruitment of personnel, purchase of equipment, control of expenditures, preparation of budget estimates and the assignment of personnel and equipment. The Fire Chief consults with the County Manager on issues of organization, policy and planning, but works independently in supervising technical operations. 



Deputy Chief - Jim White

A Deputy is responsible for operations such as Fleet Management. This includes but is not limited to Annual Testing of Pumps, Aerial Ladders, Breathing Apparatus, Hose, Rescue Equipment, and Fire Hydrant Management. As a Chief, the responsibility to respond to alarms, assist in suppression and operations, and assuming command when necessary is always there. In the absence of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Chief assumes the duties and authority of the Fire Chief. 



Assistant Chief of Operations

Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Assistant Chief is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and directing of day-to-day operations; and the evaluation of all emergency operations including fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, and hazardous materials mitigation. Assistant Chief of Operations is responsible for maintaining staffing and the approval or denial of the use of Paid Time Off. Additional responsibilities include responding to alarms, assisting in suppression and operations, and assuming command when necessary. The Assistant Chief assists the Fire Chief in post-operation analyses and evaluations; ensures sound fiscal management of budgeted resources, and participates in the development and incorporation of efficient operating guidelines,  procedures, and policies.


Assistant Chief of Training - Britt Whitlock

Under the direction of the Fire Chief, This position involves administrative work in the performance and direction of activities to manage the department training program. Ensuring that personnel are trained and competent in order to effectively, efficiently, and safely execute all responsibilities consistent with the department’s standard operating guidelines for emergency services delivery is a main part of the role. For our department, the Chief of Training is also responsible for the EMS division and running the Fire Explorer Program. 


Fire Administrator - Brandi Trusley

Under general direction, the Fire Department Administrator manages the administration support services. Responsibilities include providing general and confidential administrative support to the Fire Chiefs; managing the department’s records and communications functions; coordinating various administrative and staff functions/work loads; assisting the department’s budgeting and purchasing activities, as a member of the department’s management team, coordinates activities with other City, County, Regional, and State departments and the general public; supervises assigned staff; performs other duties as assigned. 


Fire Clerk/Quartermaster - Jessica Chung

Under the direction of the Fire Administrator, the Fire Clerk, who is also the Quartermaster, assists with providing general and confidential administrative support to the Fire Chiefs; managing the department's records and communications functions; coordinating various administrative and staff functions/work loads; ordering and distributing On-duty uniforms upon hiring and throughout career; quality controlling and reviewing fire reports; performs other duties as assigned. 


Fire Marshal - Glenn Davis

Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Fire Marshal performs fire inspections, plan review, system testing, and fire origin and cause investigation duties for the Fire Department. Assists the Fire Chief in the management and functions of the county fire inspections, plan review, and life safety programs; schedules and performs annual fire inspections, new construction inspections and conducts plan reviews to assure compliance with the adopted fire codes; participates in the development and maintenance of pre-incident plans; may be asked to respond to and investigate fire code compliance complaints; prepares reports in regards to fire inspections, fire alarms, and assists with preparation for the adoption of new fire codes; reviews alarm and activity reports to assist the Fire Chief in identifying preventative strategies to reduce false alarms; performs other duties as assigned.


Deputy Fire Marshal - Scott McDaniel

Under the direction of the Fire Marshal, the Deputy Fire Marshal Assists the Fire Marshal in planning, organizing, and directing the County's Fire Prevention Program including planning new construction, inspection services, building plan reviews, fire investigations, code compliance, disaster preparedness, community education, and public information programs; performs other duties assigned.
